Tips for the trail

To keep you focused on the ride ahead, arm yourself with some essential trailside knowledge.

Fine tune your shifting

If your shifting is less than perfect, use the barrel adjuster to add or remove cable tension until your shifting improves. For best results, you’ll want to check the shifting performance while riding the bike so the suspension is in the sagged, riding position.

  • To improve shifting from a smaller cog to a larger cog (inboard shifting), turn the barrel adjuster counter-clockwise in one-click increments to add tension and move the pulley inboard.
  • To improve shifting from a larger cog to a smaller cog (outboard shifting), turn the barrel adjuster clockwise in one-click increments to remove tension and move the derailleur outboard.

What to look for: If you’ve struck your derailleur, verify that the knurled ring mark is aligned with the mark on the full mount. If misaligned, a trailside derailleur reset is required. Try resetting by hand before resetting with the axle.

Tech tip: If you need to reset the system with the axle, do not loosen the 8 mm derailleur mounting bolt, especially while the axle is under torque. You only need to loosen the axle for the derailleur reset.

Chainring replacement

Replacing an Eagle Transmission chainring is a simple process that may require a few extra steps. If you have swapped to a bigger or smaller chainring, you must consult the Full Mount Chain Length Guide, or in the SRAM AXS App to make sure that your chain is still the correct length. Your derailleur position will also change, so you must reperform the Eagle Transmission set up process.

How to clean:

1. Use a damp cloth to wipe off any dirt and debris.

2. Clean the components and chain with soap and water, gently using a brush if necessary. Harsh degreasers will lead to damaged seals or rubber components.

3. Avoid direct pressure washing to protect the components as you would with all the seals and bearings on any bike.

4. Rinse thoroughly and allow the parts to dry, then lubricate with your favorite chain lube and wipe away the excess. The best way to maintain a quiet and long-lasting chain is to keep the rollers clean and lubricated... No wax or soaking needed!

Tech tip: Leave your chain installed for cleaning. The PowerLock that holds your chain together is designed for a single use only. If you remove it, you’ll need to install a new one.
