Road World Championships 2022
As the climbers were caught and the sprinters were getting ready for the final dash, Annemiek van Vleuten saw her opportunity. Normally one for stunning long range attacks, AVV, riding with a fractured elbow, had been unable to get away. But one flawless attack with a kilometer to go brought the Dutch legend her second road world championship in unforgettable fashion. Team SD Worx star Lotte Kopecky finished in second.

Van Vleuten’s dramatic victory in the road race capped an incredible week for SRAM, Zipp and TIME athletes at the world championships. Ellen van Dijk of Trek-Segafredo started the rainbow haul by defending her title in the women’s individual time trial, with Swiss champion Marlen Reusser of Team SD Worx taking bronze. Reusser then got her rainbows, along with Canyon//SRAM Racing’s Elise Chabbey, as part of the winning Swiss mixed relay team.

They will not have the own race for a few more years, but U23 women were finally given their own world championship podium. Niamh Fisher-Black of New Zealand added to Team SD Worx’s medal haul as she became the first ever women’s U23 world champion. Ricarda Bauernfeind of Canyon//SRAM Generation finished her sensational season with bronze.
