The rain brought rainbows for Lotte Kopecky at Saturday’s UCI World Championships women’s road race. The 154.1km race brought non-stop, grueling weather conditions for the riders, and it all came down to the final 200 meters. Kopecky sprinted victoriously over the finish line and was crowned World Champion once again. So nice, she had to do it twice!

The Belgian’s patience and stamina proved successful, as she was dropped on the final climb by Dutch rider Demi Vollering. Kopecky was able to work her way back to the lead group and into the final sprint along with the American Chloé Dygert, who took the silver medal. Italian rider Elisa Longo Borghini won the bronze.

In addition to Lotte winning gold, several other SRAM athletes delivered big World Championships accomplishments:

  • Chloe Dygert – second place in women’s RR GC, third place in women’s ITT 
  • Elisa Longo Borghini – third place in women’s RR GC
  • Neve Bradbury – second place in women’s U23 RR GC
  • Antonia Niedermaier – third place in women’s U23 RR GC
  • Demi Vollering – second place in women’s ITT
  • Niklas Behrens – first place in men’s U23 RR GC
  • Ivan Romeo – first place in men’s U23 ITT
  • Cat Ferguson – first place in women’s junior ITT, first place in women’s junior RR GC
  • Lorenzo Finn – first place in men’s junior RR GC
